![]() ![]() ![]() Maybe at 61 my expectations were a little unrealistic! One thing I could have improved on was diet. When you workout with the team and watch the videos every day you become part of them and, if you can keep up, think you are one of them! I thought I would get the body of a twentysomething and have to admit I was more than a little disappointed when I didn't. Instead of being straight up and down my shoulders had broadened and my waist had shrunk and it was noticeable when I looked in the mirror. I didn't lose much weight (I didn't need too) but probably exchanged 3kg of fat for 2kg of muscle. Some exercises remained extremely challenging whilst others I could handle really well and the programme highlights the differences we all have in our own body physiology. I kept at it, never missing a day and whilst it never got easy I was more or less able to keep up by the end. Pace yourself and don't beat yourself up if you can't keep up. The intensity and duration of the exercises are ramped up and significantly so. Week five you have a recovery week and on week six all hell lets loose. The emphasis is on maintaining form.Īfter four weeks I couldn't detect any physical changes in my body but since I wasn't overweight to begin with and was already fit I was confident that the changes would come after the final four weeks. You are encouraged to workout at your own level and take breaks when you need to, coming back to it as soon as you feel able. Shaun is a great motivator right through to the end. The guys and girls working out with him have obviously completed the course and are fit but without exception they all need to take breaks, at some stage, outside the official water breaks. The workouts are well thought out and professionally choreographed by Shaun T and his team. It found all those muscles I didn't use much but - how could I be that sore? I can see why some might give it up early! It was hard, left me panting on the floor and with muscle soreness that lasted a week. My first fitness test results were good but I got my butt well and truly kicked during the first workout. My body was ok but it lacked definition and didn't seem to reflect the effort I was putting in. I was pretty fit before I started as I spent a lot of time in the gym including up to 5 x 45 minute high intensity spinning sessions per week.
